Your Original Medicare pays for much of your medical expenses — but not all of them. A Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Plan covers the 20% of health expenses not covered by Original Medicare (Part A and Part B). This could include costs like copayments, coinsurance, or deductibles.

Your doctor first bills Medicare for your service or procedure. Then, Medicare pays the approved portion and sends the remainder of the bill to your Medicare Supplement insurance. Without a Medigap plan, you would be responsible for paying the remaining expenses out-of-pocket.

Which Medicare Supplement has the best coverage?

Medigap Plan F is a popular plan because it offers the most comprehensive coverage — which means you pay zero out of pocket costs for your health expenses. Simply pay your premiums and enjoy peace of mind that you're prepared.

Similarly, Plan G offers the same benefits but without covering the Part B deductible. Plan C offers comprehensive coverage but does not include Part B excess charges.

When are you eligible for Medicare?

When you turn 65, you become eligible for Medicare coverage. There's an annual enrollment period from mid-October through early December.

During your initial enrollment period, Medicare Supplement Plans may be available to you regardless of pre-existing conditions. This is not always true if you have already enrolled, switched plans, or are attempting to switch back to Original Medicare and a supplement plan at a later age. Additionally, adding or changing coverage could result in penalties if you do so at a later date.
